SOC NATIONAL DAY 2008

“Stags on Safari”

The Worcestershire Area would like to thank all those members and traders that joined us for National Weekend 2008 and helped make the event a great success.

A series of events were put on starting with the campsite barbeque on Friday night, a Golf Competition, a Steam Train experience on the Severn Valley Railway, a run out through the wonderful Worcestershire countryside where some 50 cars took part.

A highlight of the run was a visit to the TR Register’s International Weekend at Malvern where we were treated like royalty. 20 cars lined up in the parade arena and various members were interviewed by Steve Redway and given a chance to say a few words about our club and of course to talk up the merits of owning a Stag. Many thanks go to the TR Register for hosting the group.

Saturday then continued in the evening with a sell out disco and supper at the Stourport Manor Hotel. The campers and members staying in surrounding accommodation were brought to the Manor by coach. 10 children also attended the supper which was great to see, as the emphasis this year was on this being a family weekend. The evening continued with lots of dancing, talking and enjoyment until the disc jockey bought things to a close at 11:30pm.

National Day arrived to glorious sunshine and the weather kept fine for us except for an occasional light shower in mid morning.

The traders arrived at 7:30am to set up for the day and we would like to thank all of the following for attending and helping to make the day a successful one.

Rimmer Bros., E.J.Ward, Robsport International, Faversham Classics, Stag Tech International, Wrightons,  Boss Screen,  Chapman & Cliff,  Enginuity,  Tune Up,  Parts for Stags,  Just Triumph, Car Medic, SOCTFL, RH Insurance, Bens Autojumble.

At 10.15 the “Stags on Safari” National Day was officially opened by the Hon. President Lesley Phillips.  Simon Preece was on hand to guide us through the day’s events together Chris Liles who stepped in for the final couple of hours. Thanks to both for a sterling job.

Membership, Accessories, Technical Information and the National Day information desk were all staffed by our members and a big thank you for that together with the fantastic job of marshalling by the Worcestershire and other area members.

During the day members were able to see a hood being fitted by Brian Turner, timing chain surgery by Faversham and peruse the trade stands.

The amenities at the Safari park were plentiful enough for all the family to enjoy, from the theme park rides to the reptile house etc.   The trip around the safari park was also enjoyed by all who dared!!!

The safari park did us proud by putting on a display of furry animals as well as giving the children a free face painting experience.  Some adults shared this! - didn’t they Janet Taylor!

Thanks also to Rod Kennedy, our official photographer for the day, who, I am sure has all the photographic proof.

All had to come to an end with the Trophies for the golf, car competitions and children‘s colouring, being presented by Lesley Phillips.

The chosen Charity this year was for the Warwickshire fire fighters Memorial garden, which is being built in remembrance of the 4 Fire-fighters who lost their lives at Atherstone on Stour. Thanks to member’s generosity, Lesley was able to hand a cheque for £500 to Mark Walker, a fellow Worcestershire member and Fire-fighter.

After acknowledging the hard work carried out by all involved in the organisation of the event, the 2008 “Stags On Safari” National Day was officially closed.
