Insurance Scheme and Valuations
CAR INSURANCE
The Stag Owners Club has for over four decades enjoyed a special relationship with Howden Classics, the new name for RH Specialist Insurance, and have secured preferential rates for club members – full details of which are given in the members’ area.
Valuations

Do not take the risk. Classic car values in general have firmed up and prices for Triumph Stags are rising. Although none of us would like to have our car stolen not having it adequately insured with an Agreed Value would be like adding insult to injury.
In order to get an Agreed Value some insurers may not only require photographs but also an independent assessment of its value from a respected authority. *¹ Please refer to the club magazine for instructions on how to obtain a valuation for your car – ‘Members Only Service’.

*¹ If you’re insured with Howden Classics, you can request to ‘self agree’ your Stag’s value up to £30,000. Just call or e-mail the Howden Classics Team (0333 043 3911 / classics@howdeninsurance.co.uk) and ask for further details.
YOUNG DRIVERS
Howden Classics offers insurance hope for the next generation of Stag drivers.
Parents of children learning to drive know only too well how crippling the costs of insurance can be. Insurance costs are also becoming a matter of concern for classic car clubs, many of whom are wondering where the next generation of classic car owners and enthusiasts will come from.
“That’s certainly the feedback we’ve had from our club partners” says Emma Airey, Business Development Manager at Howden Classics. “Unfortunately some of our competitors completely withdrew from the young driver insurance market in recent years, reducing choice.
“Here at Howden Classics we’ve been working hard to find more innovative ways of encouraging that next generation of classic vehicle enthusiasts to get behind the wheel of their own classic car.”
Howden’s total commitment to providing an accessible service means that if you’re a young enthusiast wishing to get behind the wheel of a parent car, or even your very own Stag, there are several opportunities for you to consider:
Driving a Stag which belongs to your parent (‘warranted accompanied *¹):
If you’re aged 18+ and have held a full (claim/conviction-free) UK driving licence for at least 12 months you may be entitled to drive on a warranted accompanied basis. This means driving whilst under supervision of the vehicle’s owner or a more experienced driver. This form of cover is ideal for young drivers who are keen to gain experience behind the wheel of a classic for at least a year before driving unaccompanied **.
Any accompanying drivers have to be named and approved on the policy and also named within the warranted accompanied endorsements. Once the individual has at least 12 months’ driving experience, the insurer will consider removal of the endorsement. Each request is considered on a case-by-case basis if requested.
Driving your own Stag:
If you’re a young classic car owner aged from 21 to 24, and you have an alternative ‘everyday car’, you may be entitled to have your very own policy with Howden Classics. Again you would need to be claim/ conviction-free and have a minimum of 2 years’ driving experience. Usage would be restricted to social, domestic and pleasure only.
Here’s how it works
If your Stag is:
- used for social domestic and pleasure purposes only
- kept garaged overnight
and you
- have held a full UK driving licence for at least 24 months
- have not had any accidents / claims or convictions
- own an ‘everyday’ car
- cover less than 3000 miles per annum in your classic
- are a member of the Stag Owners Club
- require social, domestic and pleasure use only (no commuting)
there’s a good chance that Howden Classics will be able to give you a quotation for your Stag.
Even if you don’t tick every one of these boxes, Howden Classics may still be able to tailor a solution to meet your needs. All requests would be considered on a case by case basis.
If you’re a young driver looking to move into the rewarding world of classic ownership, it’s really worth contacting the Howden Classics team on 0333 043 3911. It could turn out to be the most cost-effective call you’ll ever make.
- *Warranted accompanied means driving whilst under the supervision of an experienced driver over the age of 25.
- ** A young driver excess and additional premium will apply.
