SALES LITERATURE

Envisaged as a continental grand tourer it was decided that the Stag would be launched in Belgium on the 3rd May 1970 and that over the following three weeks the press would be given ample opportunity to talk to the engineers, view and test drive the car.

UK Sales literature from Launch to 1976

Brochure 438/570/ENG (May 1970) See Issue 434, December/January 2018/19
This was the first brochure for the car and consisted of a single page of monochrome, double sided A4 paper, folded in half to provide a four page A5 brochure. It is a very simple affair prepared before the car was shown to the public and was companioned with a 24-page full colour brochure (ref. 770)

Brochure 437/770/ENG (July 1970) See Issue 435, February 2019
The first full brochure was produced at approximately the same time as the simple, monochrome fold-up (ref. 570, above) in early 1970. This was the brochure prepared for ‘serious punters’, those people who expressed an interest in actually buying the most expensive model which Triumph could supply. It is an A4, full colour, 24-page glossy brochure and features RRW 97H (LD1 by another name). It was reprinted on a number of occasions which follow, with varying degrees of alteration.

Brochure 437/771/ENG (April 1971) See Issue 436, March 2019This reprint had one change from the previous version, the ‘The’ was removed from the cover..

Brochure 437/771/ENG (July 1971)
See Issue 436, March 2019
This is where it gets interesting as a number of changes were made in the production of this version of the brochure. Presumably it was prepared so that there were plenty of copies available for the new ‘K’ registration in August 1971.
There is a further variant of this brochure: T911/572 (May 1972) with minimal changes ahead of that year’s new registrations.

Brochure 5/72 /ENG (May 1972)

Brochure T911/173/ENG (January 1973)   See Issues 439, June 2019, and 440, July 2019
Whereas the first series of brochures all showed LD 1 slaloming up an alpine pass, the second series all show a front three quarter view of a white Stag against a plain white background. The last brochure in this series being that dated March 1975. These second series brochures show how little money was being allocated to Stag in 1973. The number of pages have been reduced from the 20 of the May 1972 brochure to 16 and, apart from the new front cover, the pages within utilise the original 1970 pictures of LD 1, slightly rearranged and with different wording.

Brochure T911/1073/ENG (October 1973)
See Issue 443, October 2019
At first glance the front cover looks just the same as the 1/73 issue, however there is a change of registration number from CWK 602L to HRW 566M. If one looks even closer one can see that the picture is taken from a slightly different angle and the car now has steel wheels. Inside, the 10/73 brochure and the 1/73 brochure are very similar but all the ‘action shots’ are still of RRW 97H dressed up as RRW 97L.

Brochure 4/74 /ENG (April 1974)
These are two further variants of the  October 1973 brochure: T911/474 (April 1974) is almost identical albeit for a small change to the conditions of sale on the back page.

Brochure 3/75 /ENG (March 1975)
T911/375 (March 1975) Is an exact reprint of T911/474.
