Membership Report
As of the end of October the membership seems to be a little up on last year, which is a good thing and reverses the recent (for the last fifteen years anyway) trend. Whether it will hold up now that the Covid lock down is over remains to be seen.
Registrar’s Report
The registrar’s workload continues to increase as people become more aware of the work being done following the magazine articles started in 2020. The number of individual Stag entries on the register stands at well over 17,000 and there have been a few notable additions during the year, not the least of which was the ‘donation’ of over 1,500 records from the BMIHT file information, gleaned from visits to Gaydon by Martin Cooper. This involves original spec. and despatch details from Stags built in 1977, with a smattering of information from the 1976 model year. Thanks Martin, your endeavours are hugely appreciated.
The registrar articles, under the heading ‘Know Your Stag’, are designed to introduce members to aspects of originality with the hope that some will assist in adding to the Stag knowledge base. This interest in Stag originality has been sadly lacking since the Club’s true concours events ceased in the nineties.
From the increase of information available from both register and archive activities, the registrar feels that he is able to start to right the wrongs afforded to Stag during the early days of classic car magazine publication and if you are googling around the Net, you will find that his name appears within most ‘comments’ sections after articles written about Stag. This gives good publicity for the Club and, hopefully, will increase its profile as the place to go for any information about Stag.
Archivist’s Report
The archive continues to grow with the addition of both purchases and donations. Thanks to all who have sent information and scans/photographs for the digital archive and a very special ‘Thank You’ must go to Brian George, who has donated to the archive a full set of both workshop manuals and parts catalogues as well as all the UK drivers handbooks (all nine editions). Thank You Brian.
The historical articles based on archive material which are being written for the magazine have been well received and will continue for quite a while as there is no shortage of material to work with but please remember that neither the Archivist nor his digital associate know everything that is out there, so please let us know if you see anything which you think would interest the Club and please don’t throw away any memorabilia or classic car magazines without checking that they are wanted to add to the Stag information base.
Although not strictly part of the Archive, the Club’s magazines have a huge amount of information about Stag and they have now been digitized for adding to the website. The digital archivist was fortunate in having a volunteer to assist with the scanning involved and another big Thank You must go to Ian Robertson up there in Durham for the hard work which he put in slaving over a hot scanner so that the membership can access all the past magazines.
Data Controller’s Report
Having ensured that the Club had all the relevant policies in place for the changes in law that came with the Data Protection Act in 2018, there have been regular small flurries of activity as members seek to check that we are adhering to that law. This year has been no exception but I can’t disclose any details as that would be an inappropriate data breach !
